The number of blogs launched every day is staggering, and the number of blogs that die out shortly after is most likely just as high (read our The Graveyard of dead design blogs for a sample). There are countless lists out there on what to do when your new blog is up and running, from submitting to search engines, to setting up social media accounts, to optimizing you site — lots of things to do. And that’s on top of actually writing useful content. But many fall into a trap of pushing it a bit too far, and we’ve gathered a few tips on what not to do when you launch that new blog of yours.
A few years ago, a new and lucrative blog category emerged: design blogs, which covered everything from tutorials, showcases and in-depth articles. Naturally, as it was with the rise of thousands of gadget blogs once Engadget and Gizmodo were established, the same trend happened in the design blog category. And the same trend of hundreds, perhaps thousands of dead and abandoned design blogs now litter the web. As people realized that to create great content took time end effort, many gave up, and some of those blogs are still online — most simply expire with their domains, which are quickly snatched up by domain scavengers. We’ve gathered some of the design blogs which now appear to be dead, and are yet online — most “passed away” in 2010, and will probably go offline this year as their domains expire. So enjoy this weird grave yard of web sites :)
